Feasts
A feast turns a village's stored food and drink, and gold from your treasury, into Renown. You pay the cost up front, your lord gets a fixed lump of Renown at once, and the village gets a popularity boost for some hours. Each village can hold one feast at a time and must rest afterwards. Times on this page are game hours at world speed 1; on a faster world divide them by its speed.
The basics
- Open a village and choose a feast. The village must hold everything on the bill.
- You get the Renown immediately. The village's popularity rises for the feast's duration, which brings in more peasants and more Renown per hour while it lasts.
- After a feast ends the village must wait 12 game hours before the next one, less with feast research or cards.
- Feast research in the Trade branch and feast cards raise the Renown, popularity and length of a feast and shorten the rest. The numbers in the tables below are the base values before any of that.
- The two grand feasts need a finished Banqueting Hall in that village, which needs the Feasting research and rank 5 (Yeoman).
- Every village feasts on its own schedule, so a lord with several villages can run several feasts at once.
Feast tiers
| Feast | Min rank | Needs | Cost | Renown at once | Popularity | Lasts | Full cycle |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Village Supper | 1 (Cottar) | 150 apples, 60 cheese | 40 | +3 | 6 h | 18 h | |
| Harvest Feast | 3 (Villein) | 120 meat, 120 cheese, 80 vegetables, 40 ale | 150 | +6 | 12 h | 24 h | |
| Lord's Banquet | 5 (Yeoman) | finished Banqueting Hall | 250 meat, 150 bread, 150 cheese, 80 ale, 80 wine, 200 gold | 450 | +10 | 18 h | 30 h |
| Royal Feast | 9 (Knight) | finished Banqueting Hall | 500 meat, 200 fish, 300 bread, 150 ale, 200 wine, 800 gold | 1,400 | +14 | 24 h | 36 h |
"Full cycle" is the feast's duration plus the 12-hour rest, which is the shortest time between two feasts in the same village.
Boosts from research and cards
A feast's numbers are fixed when it is held, from four multipliers:
renown = round(base renown x (1 + research renown) x card renown factors)
popularity = round(base popularity x (1 + research popularity) x card popularity factors)
hours = base hours x (1 + research length) x card length factors
rest = 12 x max(0.05, (1 - research rest cut) x card rest shares)Research bonuses add up across nodes; each card in play is its own factor, and several multiply. A card with cooldown 0.5 keeps half the rest, so its rest share is 0.5. The rest never falls below 5% of the base, 36 game minutes.
| Source | Renown | Popularity | Length | Rest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All five feast research nodes | +100% | +50% | +75% | 70% shorter |
| Spiced Wine (village, 12 h) | +20% | |||
| Long Tables (village, 12 h) | +50% | |||
| Hired Jesters (village, 12 h) | +50% | |||
| Scullions' Brigade (village, 24 h) | half | |||
| The Master Cook (realm, 24 h) | +50% | +25% | ||
| Feast of Fools (realm, 48 h) | +100% | +100% | ||
| Midsummer Revels (realm, 48 h) | +50% | a quarter | ||
| The Royal Kitchens (realm, 72 h) | +200% | +100% | +100% | half |
| The Feast Eternal (realm, 7 days) | +400% | +150% | +200% | a tenth |
Fresh Kegs (an instant rare card) ends a village's rest at once, so it can feast again straight away.
Worked example: a lord with all five feast nodes holds a Royal Feast with The Royal Kitchens in play.
renown = round(1,400 x 2 x 3) = 8,400
popularity = round(14 x 1.5 x 2) = 42
hours = 24 x 1.75 x 2 = 84 game hours
rest = 12 x (1 - 0.7) x 0.5 = 1.8 game hoursTiming and cooldown
until = now + hours x 3,600,000 / worldSpeed (ms)
readyAt = until + rest x 3,600,000 / worldSpeed (ms)hours and rest are the boosted values above; with no research or cards they are the feast's hours and 12.
The popularity bonus applies while now < until. A new feast can be held from readyAt. The cooldown is per village and does not depend on which feast you held, so a Village Supper also blocks a Royal Feast for its 18-hour cycle.
What a feast is worth
The Renown lump is not raised by Standing, Renown research, Renown rate cards or the admin Renown gain. Only feast research and feast cards raise it (see above). The popularity bonus is a normal popularity factor (shown under the feast's name), so the extra Renown it earns over its duration goes through the village Renown formula (see ranks-and-renown.md):
extra Renown from popularity = popularity x Standing x 0.05 x hours x accountMultiplier x renownGainaccountMultiplier is 1 plus the summed Renown bonuses from research and rate cards. This holds only while the village total stays between 0 and the cap of 100. Popularity below zero earns no Renown at all, so a feast in an unhappy village only helps to the extent it lifts the total above zero. A village already at 100 gains nothing extra.
Values for a village with Standing 12 (for example 60 peasants, a staffed Chapel and two Village Statues near the hall) and no Renown research or cards. A village with more Standing earns proportionally more from the same feast:
| Feast | Lump | Extra from popularity | Total | Per 24 h of cycle, lump only |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Village Supper | 40 | 3 x 12 x 0.05 x 6 = 10.8 | 50.8 | 40 x 24 / 18 = 53.3 |
| Harvest Feast | 150 | 6 x 12 x 0.05 x 12 = 43.2 | 193.2 | 150 x 24 / 24 = 150 |
| Lord's Banquet | 450 | 10 x 12 x 0.05 x 18 = 108 | 558 | 450 x 24 / 30 = 360 |
| Royal Feast | 1,400 | 14 x 12 x 0.05 x 24 = 201.6 | 1,601.6 | 1,400 x 24 / 36 = 933.3 |
Worked example: the same Standing 12 village, with Village School and Scriptorium researched (1 + 0.05 + 0.10 = 1.15), holds a Harvest Feast. The extra from popularity is 6 x 12 x 0.05 x 12 x 1.15 = 49.7, so the feast is worth about 150 + 49.7 = 199.7 Renown, plus the extra peasants that higher popularity draws in. The Banqueting Hall itself also adds +1 popularity and 3 Standing to its village whenever it stands (in full within 12 tiles of the hall).
Rules and order of checks
When you ask to hold a feast, the server checks in this order and stops at the first failure:
- The feast exists and the village is yours.
- Your rank is at least the feast's minimum ("A Harvest Feast needs the rank of Villein.").
- If the feast needs a Banqueting Hall, one is finished (active or idle) in that village.
- The village is not still within its cooldown ("... is still recovering from its last feast.").
- The village is advanced to now, then every resource on the bill is checked. All missing resources are named in one error.
Then the cost is removed, the feast is recorded on the village, the village is recalculated so the popularity shows at once, and the Renown is granted. Because it goes through the normal Renown grant, a feast that crosses a rank threshold promotes you immediately.
Food comes from the granary, ale and wine from the inn store, and gold from your treasury, which all your villages share. See village.md for stores and markets.md if you need to buy ingredients.
